MIT is preparing for a leadership change at its School of Architecture and Planning, where Dean Hashim Sarkis will step down at the end of June 2027 after a 12-year tenure.
During his time as dean, Sarkis oversaw expanded interdisciplinary research and new academic initiatives, including the Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, Morningside Academy for Design, and MIT-LUMA Lab.
His tenure also included the conversion of MIT’s century-old Met Warehouse into a new hub for architecture, planning, and design, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
