The USC School of Architecture will host two symposia in Los Angeles this October focused on how architectural practice is changing beyond conventional studio models.

The first, Expanded Borders | Fronteras Expandidas, is set for Oct. 16 and will bring together practitioners from the Tijuana-Los Angeles corridor to discuss work that crosses geographic and disciplinary boundaries.

According to the school, the event will feature architects who have built research laboratories, curatorial spaces, schools, and binational programs alongside their design practices, and it is being presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico.

The discussion is described as moving beyond the U.S.-Mexico border itself to examine the disciplinary borders that separate architects from other roles.

The second symposium will look at collective practice and will continue the school’s October programming in Los Angeles.
