Mesabi Metallics is planning a $15 billion steel mill in Iowa and says the project would be the largest single investment ever made in a U.S. steel facility, according to Engineering News-Record.

The company also said it has a separate $3 billion investment tied to an iron ore mine in Minnesota.

The planned Iowa mill is expected to generate up to 6,000 construction jobs, the company said.

Engineering News-Record reported the plans in an article published Sept. 29, 2026. The source material provided does not include additional project details, schedules, or named contractors.
