Workers at Dattner Architects are seeking to form a union, according to a report by Archinect citing the firm’s employees and Architecture Workers United.
The organizing group says the effort includes the majority of designers, architects, and operations staff at the New York City-based practice.
Jacobin reported that more than 100 workers are involved and are organizing with the International Association of Machinists.
The workers said they are pursuing a card-check neutrality agreement and that they have built support from a supermajority of employees after years of campaigning.
If the effort succeeds, Dattner Architects would become the largest unionized architecture firm in the United States.
The statement shared by Architecture Workers United said the employees support the firm’s stated mission of creating equitable communities and believe unionizing can help shape the future direction of architecture.
