The Colburn campus expansion is under construction in Downtown Los Angeles and now has an opening date. The project adds a new performance venue to Grand Avenue’s cluster of cultural institutions.

Frank O. Gehry & Gehry Partners, LLP designed the building, which is being presented as Frank Gehry’s final addition to Downtown Los Angeles.

The 100,000-square-foot expansion is set to open on Sept. 25, 2027, with a week-long festival of performances. Archinect reported the update.

The building uses interlocking glass and opaque volumes that step down across the site rather than forming one large block. It also includes a glass-encased entrance and gardens at street and rooftop levels.

The exterior is finished in a custom fluoropolymer resin-base material called “Pink Kandi.” The source notes that the design differs from earlier renderings released in 2020.
