Construction has begun on 175 Third Street, a Brooklyn residential tower designed by BIG in the Gowanus neighborhood.

The project is being developed with dencityworks | architecture and is planned to include 1,000 residential units.

The 27-story building will occupy more than one million square feet and include a 28,000-square-foot public park along the Gowanus Canal.

Its form is described as stacked concrete volumes that step toward the canal, with an internal courtyard and rooftop terraces designed to add open space.

Archinect reported the start of construction, and quoted BIG founder Bjarke Ingels on the groundbreak. The publication said the project is being developed with Charney Companies and Tavros.
