Carnegie Museum of Art commissioned AD-WO to redesign the Heinz Architectural Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after a two-stage competition. The museum said the proposal was selected for combining architectural design with curatorial vision.

The center, established in 1993, has hosted about 76 exhibitions and supported research, publications, public programmes and collecting. The redevelopment is intended to strengthen links between those activities and the visitor experience through new gallery spaces, a redesigned collection study center and infrastructure for interdisciplinary exchange.

The center will be located within the museum’s 1907 building, between the historic halls and the Scaife Galleries built in 1974. The proposal also includes increased access to natural light.
