Kadre Architects has turned a compact residential property in Los Angeles into its office, pairing the existing house with a new two-story addition. The project creates a studio, workshop, outdoor materials laboratory, and gardens on the small site.
The firm says the intervention began with adaptive reuse of the house and added density and new uses to the lot. It uses local building regulations and Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit provisions while keeping the neighborhood’s residential character.
The new structure includes high ceilings and north-facing openings intended to bring in natural light. Views are directed toward the hills and landscape of northeast Los Angeles, and a custom movable glass wall links the main interior space to the garden.
Archinect reported the project on Sept. 25, 2026. The publication’s report notes the office is in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood and includes image courtesy of Kadre Architects.
The source also says the design continues into the landscape, with the garden forming part of the working environment. The excerpt provided by Archinect was truncated before the full project description.
